THE FIREFIGHTING & "BOXING" BATON MOVES THROUGH GENERATIONS
The journey began when my dad, referee Dick Young was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame. I enjoyed that celebration in a very special way. I saw the happiness, not only my dad felt, but all of the recipients and all the people in attendance were having a great time.
A few years later, my dad was honored at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Hollywood when he was presented with a beautiful plaque by the Golden State Boxers' Association. I was there and I really enjoyed seeing everybody again and meeting new people. Whenever Dad would attend a meeting, I would accompany him. We enjoyed ourselves, so it became a fairly regular thing we did together.
After Dad passed away I missed him dearly, and my wife Linda suggested we go to one of the luncheons. We did, and the moment I entered that building and saw all those friendly faces, I felt my dad's presence in my heart, and it felt warm. I was hooked. I became a regular member of Dad's and my boxing world. In time, I became President of the Golden State Boxers' Association. Now, I am enjoying those same warm feelings as President of the National Boxing Hall of Fame.
